Brewdog Distillery and 500 Cuts

In 2019 Amanda’s project The Very Curious Herbal Project came to the attention of Brewdog Distilling co.

Coincidentally they had also been attracted by the story of pioneering Scotswoman Elizabeth Blackwell and had set out to create a botanical Rum to celebrate her story.

Amanda was commissioned to write and deliver a short insightful story into Elizabeth’s life and work for the company’s curious, botanical yet luxurious launch at Chelsea Physic Garden in London.

Consulting with the PR and design teams, to ensure that she incorporated the flavours and plants being used by the florist, chef and mixologist for the event, Amanda shared the piece live at the event, staying on to answer questions and chat about the properties of the plants and following up over the next few days by giving interviews about Blackwell’s story and the botanicals used, to the journalists who had attended.

You can read her interview for the Master of Malt blog here:

The plan had been for Brewdog distilling to have further engagement events during 2020 and to sponsor Amanda’s own tour of The Very Curious Herbal performances unfortunately plans had to change due to the Covid pandemic, but in April 2020 Amanda went on to create a special digital live storytelling session, based around the Elizabeth Blackwell story for Brewdog’s 500 cuts bar takeover online. Enjoyed by over 100 participants, the piece helped maintain the brand's sense of quirkiness and community building during lockdown.

‘Thank you so much Amanda for all your work.

We’ve had some really great feedback… Sophie, Head of Marketing from BrewDog in particular said she loved your feature!

Many thanks again’
