An immersive evening of storytelling and live music exploring the world of local wolf legends, created and performed by storyteller Amanda Edmiston and harpist Céline Boisson.

Wolves roam through Scotland’s stories, but Killin has a wolf tale all its own. This newly commissioned piece for Stirlingshire’s ‘Carnival of the Wolf’ weaves together local wolf-lore, guises and spells that celebrate collaboration and community resilience when the Faol Moon (Wolf Moon) of hardship hails the most testing of days. Through story and clàrsach soundscape, discover how keeping our wolf legends alive keeps the land and communities alive – glimpse into how our ancient wolf-lore for a sustainable and magical future. An atmospheric performance with herbal tea and snacks provided.

Herbal storyteller and author Amanda Edmiston (Botanica Fabula) shares a special evening looking at the plants, potions, stories, social history and herb-lore that offers insights into how we find a path through the modern world! There will be teas and potions to try, the opportunity to get a signed copy of Amanda's book and to start thinking about how we work with plants and stories of our own, how we find them, work with them and share them.

Guid Crack: Near Beltane's Eve

Join herbal storyteller Amanda for an evening 'Near Beltane's Eve', a reworking of the legends of the marriage of the May Queen and the Green Man, drawing on the plant, fire and faerie filled stories that grow through the folklore surrounding this season. Do you dare loiter under the Hawthorn tree?

A fun and friendly session of Edinburgh’s monthly storytelling club held upstairs in the Waverley Bar, with the usual open-floor section for anyone to share a story, song or poem around the theme or otherwise.

Traveller's Tales and the Healing Herbs that help us navigate the paths.

A story-led journey with Amanda Edmiston (Botanica Fabula) taking a look at the folklore, fairy tales and legends that have followed travelling communities and communities that have travelled and the healing plants that feature in them.

Amanda's book Collected Curiosities is out this June and she has created this talk for the Folklore Centre she will be blending traditional storytelling, her own herbal knowledge and offer insights into her research into her own family's English Romany connection and her work researching Scottish traveller tales (with kind permission of her mentor Jess Smith), and suggesting herbal teas from the stories that you could safely prepare, affordably access and sip as you listen to this evenings session!


Up the Middle Road

Up the Middle Road: Crichton Stories of Resilience and Recovery' was performed in 2022 and made into a film by Dr Valentina Bold and Mike Bolan. The film was shortlisted for a 2025 Doc Rowe award by The Folklore Society.

The film documents outdoor performances held at the former Crichton Royal Asylum, directed by Valentina as part of Scotland’s Year of Stories. The piece shares recorded experiences of former patients and staff of the Crichton Royal, through new songs and stories from Emily Smith, Jamie McClennan, Amanda Edmiston and Kathleen Cronie and can now be viewed in full on Youtube.
